Engineering Tech Lead (Rails)
Our client builds software for auto lenders that helps them automate their loan originations. They are currently looking for an Engineering Tech Lead (Rails) for their SoMa HQ.--located blocks from the 4th and King Caltrain station. The right candidate will have the opportunity to help build the first iteration of the product form scratch and have a hand in architectural decision-making.
? Recruit high-potential engineers to fill knowledge gaps in our org. Facilitate an
interview process whereby our team agrees that a technical candidate has the
passion and skills needed to help us better automate how $600B in auto loans
get originated each year.
? Mentor and guide the technical development of our engineers. Work with them to
identify and champion technical opportunities that our business leaders will
? Facilitate inclusive architectural reviews that align our engineers on coding and
infrastructure tasks to address current and future stakeholder requirements.
? Facilitate a development process that aligns our engineers and business
stakeholders. Instill a spirit of continuous improvement in the team’s code,
architecture, and processes.
? Interface directly with external customers and partners. Assist in demoing new
features and present API docs while gathering requirements and establishing
codebases. Make schema changes, onboard vendors, and deploy infrastructure
to make our service more performant and scalable.
? 7+ years professional software development experience and 4+ years of
experience tech leading software developers in a Series B or later start-up.
? Track record in recruiting and having built self-sustaining engineering teams from
the ground up.
? Past team members speak of how you coached and mentored them to the next
levels in their career. They talk about the skills you helped them develop, which
allowed them to open new doors.
? Experience having scaled back-ends to support single-page web applications.
Exceptional coding abilities are a must.
? A track record of increasing engineering productivity and instilling ownership in a
fast-paced Agile environment by fostering collaboration.
? Experience helping engineers identify edge cases, define requirements, and
mitigate unnecessary work by asking questions rather than dictating solutions.
? Experience having scaled engineering processes around code reviews,
automated testing, deployments, on-call incident triaging, devops, etc...
? Success at coaching underperformers through their challenges while motivating
overachievers to take it to the next level.
? Great verbal and written communication skills. Past team members compliment
how you present solutions alongside problems with support from the other
members on your team. You’ve documented APIs and are comfortable coaching
engineers to do the same.
? You enable your team to be more organized and help keep them on schedule.
